Maharashtra Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE: Mahayuti, MVA Battle for Grassroots Control.

Share

Counting has begun for the Maharashtra Local Body Election Results 2025. The outcome will decide political control across 286 municipal councils and Nagar panchayats. Voting took place in two phases on December 2 and December 21. These elections are seen as a key test of grassroots support for the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Early trends are being watched closely as both blocs look to strengthen their presence before major urban elections begin.

This year’s contest saw several layers of political rivalry. Many seats witnessed “friendly fights” within the Mahayuti, involving the BJP, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP. The State Election Commission said polling was held to fill 143 vacant seats, while full-scale voting took place in the rest of the councils. Voter turnout remained steady across regions such as Pune district, Baramati, Talegaon Dabhade, Phursungi–Uruli Devachi, and Lonavla.

The ongoing counting also sets the tone for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on January 15, with counting the next day. A total of 2,869 seats in 29 municipal corporations will be contested, and over 3.48 crore voters are eligible to vote. The current local body results are expected to act as an early indicator of political momentum for both alliances ahead of Mumbai’s crucial civic battle.

According to the SEC, counting began at 10 am for all councils that voted in both phases. Some bodies, including the Dondaicha municipal council and Angar Nagar panchayat, saw uncontested victories. Jammer’s municipal president post was also filled without a contest. Several towns reported turnout above 45% by mid-afternoon. As results continue to come in, the focus now is on whether Mahayuti can retain its hold in rural and semi-urban areas or if the MVA can regain lost ground across Maharashtra.
