Former US President Donald Trump claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him India would stop buying oil from Russia soon.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he was “not happy” about India’s Russian oil purchases but added that Modi promised to end them within a short time.
In response, India firmly reiterated its stance, saying its energy decisions are guided by the goal of protecting Indian consumers amid global volatility.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India focuses on diversifying energy sources and ensuring stable supplies to meet its growing market needs.
