Former MP Prajwal Revanna has been convicted by a special court in Bengaluru in a sexual abuse and rape case. The case involves a 48-year-old woman who worked as help at the family’s farmhouse in Hassan district. She was allegedly raped twice in 2021, with the incidents recorded on the accused’s mobile phone. The trial concluded on July 18, and the verdict was announced on August 2.

Revanna faces four criminal cases filed in 2024 after more than 2,000 obscene video clips allegedly involving him surfaced online. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up to investigate the charges of rape and sexual harassment. He was arrested on May 31 last year at Bengaluru Airport after returning from Germany. The first case against him was registered at the Holenarasipura Rural Police Station in Hassan.
Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda, lost his seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Hassan constituency. Following the accusations, the JD(S) suspended him from the party. The scandal erupted when pen drives containing explicit videos were circulated in Hassan ahead of the elections.
