Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, during his visit to Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. As part of his development push, Modi will also launch multiple infrastructure projects worth over ₹46,000 crore in the region. Katra, known as the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi temple, will serve as the focal point of these ambitious upgrades.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Chenab Bridge stands as an engineering marvel, rising 359 metres above the Chenab River. Spanning 1,315 metres, the steel arch bridge is designed to withstand high-intensity earthquakes and extreme wind conditions, showcasing India’s advanced capabilities in rail infrastructure development.

The bridge is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity, especially between Jammu and Srinagar. Once operational, the Vande Bharat train will run across the Chenab Bridge, cutting the travel time between Katra and Srinagar to just around three hours. The project underscores PM Modi’s vision to transform railway connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing speed, safety, and strategic infrastructure to the heart of the Himalayas.
