Shubman Gill Set to Shatter Four of Don Bradman’s Nearly Century-Old Records, Surpassing Kohli and Gavaskar.

India captain Shubman Gill has made a remarkable start to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, amassing 585 runs in the first two Tests, including a monumental 430 runs at Edgbaston. His innings of 269 and 161 not only helped India level the series but also shattered several records, such as surpassing Virat Kohli’s highest runs by an Indian captain in a Test innings and Sunil Gavaskar’s record for most runs by an Indian in a single Test. Additionally, Gill became the first Asian captain to score a double century in SENA countries and the only player worldwide to register both a double century and a 150 in the same Test match.

With three Tests still remaining, Gill is poised to rewrite cricket history by challenging at least four world records held by the legendary Don Bradman that have stood for nearly a century. Among these is the record for the highest number of runs in a single Test series—Bradman’s 974 runs during the 1930 Ashes. Although Gill currently trails by 390 runs, his impressive form and momentum make this seemingly unbreakable record a realistic target.

One of the most immediate milestones within Gill’s reach is Bradman’s record of 810 runs scored as captain in the 1936-37 Ashes series, which was Bradman’s first as captain. Gill is only 225 runs short of this tally and is on course to surpass it in his own debut series as Test skipper. Bradman had scored three centuries and averaged 90 in that series, and with Gill already having three centuries, he is demonstrating the kind of consistency and excellence needed to match and potentially exceed the Australian great’s achievements.
