Is Sitaare Zameen Par a Hit or Flop? As Aamir Khan’s Film Crosses ₹200 Crore, We Analyze Its Box Office Performance.

Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par has garnered ₹217 crore worldwide despite a slow start, prompting discussions about its box office success. Following a string of setbacks with Thugs of Hindostan and Laal Singh Chaddha, this film was critical for the superstar’s career. Directed by RS Prasanna, the movie has earned ₹137.80 crore net (₹164.80 crore gross) domestically in 15 days, alongside over $6 million from overseas markets, making it the fourth-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025. It is on track to climb into the top three by the end of its theatrical run, potentially surpassing Housefull 5.

Despite its impressive numbers, the question remains whether Sitaare Zameen Par qualifies as a hit or more. Unlike big-budget films like Adipurush which earned high revenues but failed critically and commercially, Aamir’s latest film was made on a modest budget of ₹90 crore, with total costs including marketing estimated under ₹150 crore. With domestic earnings already exceeding the landing cost and strong weekend performances showing significant jumps on each Saturday the film is not just a hit but has the potential to become a superhit or blockbuster if its momentum continues.

Notably, Sitaare Zameen Par has bucked recent trends by not selling its streaming rights, a move Aamir Khan made clear was intentional to ensure a pure theatrical experience. While this meant missing out on a large pre-release revenue stream, the exclusivity has driven audiences to theatres, contributing to steady box office growth. This strategy reflects Aamir’s focus on a distraction-free theatrical run rather than immediate financial gain. The positive response from exhibitors, who recently honoured him as ‘box office ka baap,’ confirms that the film’s theatrical success is resonating strongly across the industry.
