Actor Cast as Lord Ram in Ramayana Amid Controversy Over Past Comments on Beef Consumption.

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has recently faced renewed criticism after an old comment he made about eating beef resurfaced on social media. The controversy gained traction when a user on X (formerly Twitter) questioned the casting choice of Ranbir as Lord Ram in the upcoming Ramayana film, tweeting, “Beef Eater will be playing the role of Bhagavan Ram now! What’s wrong with Bollywood?” In response, singer Chinmayi expressed her support for Ranbir, challenging the double standards in public discourse.

Chinmayi reacted strongly by highlighting the hypocrisy, stating, “A babaji who uses the name of God can be a rapist and he can keep getting parole to get votes in bhakt India – however what someone eats is a big problem.” When another user questioned how one wrongdoing could justify another, she replied, “Nice. So someone playing a ROLE is the same ‘bad’ as a rapist campaigning for votes amongst you. You deserve to have Ram Rahim as your local MP and visit your house personally.”

Her comments underline the ongoing debate around morality, public perception, and the social stigma linked to personal choices such as dietary habits. Chinmayi’s defense of Ranbir emphasizes that acting in a role should not be conflated with personal character judgments or used to fuel divisive narratives.
