Several residents of Pune, whose buildings are under redevelopment, have raised concerns after receiving property tax notices from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), even though their old tenements have been demolished and construction is ongoing. They blame the civic body for not completing the necessary procedures to halt tax notices during the redevelopment process.

Pravin Pawar, a resident of Pooja Niwas Housing Society in Katraj, explained that their redevelopment began in 2018. The developer had the old property tax for 56 flats cancelled and paid ₹12 lakh as tax on the open plot. Although PMC issued an occupancy certificate in August 2024 after project completion, each flat owner has now received property tax bills amounting to around ₹70,000 for the past six years. Pawar added that despite writing twice to PMC’s tax department, no action has been taken so far.
Similarly, another resident from Kothrud, whose housing society is also undergoing redevelopment, reported that property tax bills continue to be raised in residents’ names despite their flats being demolished two years ago. The resident stated, “We have informed the builder and the PMC, and hopefully, corrective steps will be taken soon.”
