In Thrissur, Kerala, police have detained a man and a woman after the remains of two newborn babies were discovered, with one case being treated as a potential murder. The couple, who were in a relationship but not married, were apprehended after the man arrived at the Pudukad police station early on Sunday, claiming to have the skeletal remains of the infants in a bag. Reports indicate that he was intoxicated when he presented the remains, stating that the babies had died in separate incidents.

Upon investigation, the woman revealed that the first baby had died naturally due to the umbilical cord wrapping around its neck during birth. According to her, she buried the baby near her home and kept the remains for ritual purposes. However, the circumstances surrounding the second baby’s death raised alarms; police allege that the woman admitted to suffocating the newborn shortly after its birth when it began to cry. She reportedly handed the body over to the man, who then buried it.
The police have launched a thorough investigation, including preliminary forensic tests confirming the remains are indeed those of two infants. They are also looking into whether the woman’s family was aware of her pregnancies and the births. The case unfolded amid rising tensions between the couple, including the man’s suspicions that the woman might marry someone else and concerns about a second mobile phone he discovered in her possession, which ultimately led him to report the situation to the authorities.
