Hours after the United States launched airstrikes on Iran’s underground nuclear facilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, urging immediate de-escalation and a return to dialogue and diplomacy. Expressing deep concern over the rising tensions, PM Modi emphasized the need for regional peace and stability. “Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,” he wrote on X.

The U.S. strikes, which marked a major escalation in the region, targeted three heavily fortified nuclear sites in Iran — Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz — using stealth bombers and 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs. These sites are known to be critical components of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The strikes came in the wake of Israel’s ongoing campaign to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities, despite parallel negotiations between Washington and Tehran aimed at preventing Iran from enriching uranium to weapon-grade levels.

Iran responded sharply to the U.S. assault, vowing retaliation and condemning the action as unlawful. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a strong warning, stating, “The warmongering, a lawless administration in Washington, is solely and fully responsible for the dangerous consequences and far-reaching implications of its act of aggression.” The situation remains tense, with global leaders urging restraint to avoid further destabilization in the region.
