A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his 19-year-old neighbour in Delhi’s Rangpuri area. The victim, who had attempted suicide by consuming acid two weeks ago, is currently undergoing treatment. The girl’s family accused the accused of blackmailing her with private photos for two to three years. The police received a medico-legal case report on June 18 regarding the suicide attempt and seized the acid bottle from the scene.
The victim’s mother filed a written complaint at the Vasant Kunj South police station against the neighbour, identified as MD Rehaan, alleging sexual assault under the pretext of marriage and blackmail with objectionable images. Voice recordings found on the girl’s mobile phone supported these allegations. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was in a relationship with Rehaan. The police also informed local authorities, who visited Safdarjung Hospital to record the victim’s statement; however, she was unfit to provide it.
A case was registered under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (sexual intercourse by deceitful means) and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Rehaan, who previously worked as a loader at an airport, is currently unemployed. The investigation is ongoing.
