The Indian government has banned 25 OTT platforms, including Ullu, ALTT, and Hulchul, over content it described as “pornographic in nature.” One of the key examples cited by officials was Ullu’s controversial reality show House Arrest, hosted by actor Ajaz Khan.

Although House Arrest was removed from Ullu in May 2025 following intervention by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, officials said the platform continued to share obscene and, in some cases, pornographic material. According to sources, a warning had already been sent to several OTT platforms back in September 2024 regarding similar issues.
The Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council (DPCGC), a self-regulatory body led by a former Supreme Court judge, also took action against Ullu. It had previously asked the platform to take down over 100 web series. However, sources claimed that Ullu would temporarily remove or edit the content, only to later repost it in its original form—essentially bypassing warnings.
House Arrest came under fire earlier this year after Ajaz Khan asked inappropriate questions about sex positions to a female contestant and had others act them out on camera. Another viral clip showed women being asked to remove their undergarments on camera as part of a “challenge.” Both Khan and Ullu founder Vibhu Agarwal were summoned by the National Commission for Women. Public outrage also followed, with one user tagging Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and calling the show “disgusting” and “vulgar,” demanding an immediate ban.
